Study Smart not Hard

So here we are with weeks to go. Leaving Cert. students are exhausted and apprehensive about the proverbial last hurdle. They have been an amazing embodiment of determination & resilience but ultimately want to do their final weeks of post primary justice; despite the incredible uncertainty they have navigated since that fateful day on 12th March, 2020.

There are many ways to ascertain some solid study advice. But here goes with my version of a collection of tips & tricks:

🕰 Be clever with your time. Plan to avoid saturation. Try to cover each subject at least once every two days. Use planning templates to map your Easter break out. Even doing this will feel empowering & refreshing.

⚖️ Make sure to balance study across all subjects. Don’t neglect subjects because you don’t like them or you find them difficult. Again - listing them out & being organised will avoid this happening.

🛠 Use available study tools such as iRevise, StudyClix, YouTube, revision books, exam papers etc to shake things up & assist where needed. At this stage you shouldn’t be still studying through your sense text books. Use the tools out there - don’t reinvent the wheel.

🤔 Test yourself after a session. What have I learned? Teach someone else if you can. Content is retained better when we get this opportunity.

🧠 Know your learning style. Use tools such as this https://classroomguidance.ie/test/learning-styles-2/ to maybe identify a few hacks for your unique style. Do you need to move a little? Or more so with a bit of sound or pictures?

⁉️Why do you want to do well? If you think you’re only doing it for someone else it will make it harder to push through. Tap into your inner values of wanting to do well for YOU. Always remember how good it feels knowing you’ve done your best, put in the time & that feeling of satisfaction when you know it was for yourself - by yourself.

💆Self care is king in these times. Sleeping, eating well & exercising are the foundations of minding yourself. Get some fresh air at least once a day. Within your plan build in some ‘me’ time, air time & exercise.

📚 Orgsnise you notes, books, desk/work station. Make sure there’s light & air. Spend some time getting this right, so when you sit down you’re ready to roll.
